Anticipating the arrival of a baby can be a very exciting time, but is not always straightforward. There’s a lot of information available to parents, which can be empowering but can also be overwhelming. Perinatal counselling offers support to women and their partners during the period from pregnancy planning to first year after birth. Counselling offers a confidential and non-judgmental environment in which to explore expectations, concerns, and options for pregnancy, birth, and the transition to parenthood.
Christina is a midwife who specialises in perinatal counselling for individuals and couples. She has a particular passion for demystifying the experience of pregnancy, birth, and parenthood. With warmth and humour she offers a confidential and non-judgmental environment for expectant and new parents to explore their expectations, concerns, queries and options during the transition to parenthood. Christina is an integrative counsellor, who draws on a number of modalities including Solutions Focussed Brief Therapy, Emotional Freedom Technique, Narrative Therapy and Mindfulness.
Support for women in pregnancy has been shown to help increase feelings of self-confidence, and has the potential to help decrease interventions during labour and birth. Postnatal support is associated with increased overall maternal satisfaction and may also be helpful in reducing experiences of postnatal depression.
